Greenwood
Granary |
|
|
Greenwood
Granary is at the very end of a sparsely populated and
rural “no through road” outside the small village of
Punnetts Town. The village, and those surrounding it,
offer several good pubs and a village shop and the local
market towns of Heathfield and Hailsham offer a range of
facilities including local farmers’ markets. The larger
towns of Brighton, Hastings, Eastbourne and Tunbridge
Wells are all within 45 minutes by car as are
Glyndebourne, Battle and beaches, stately homes and
castles. |

|
|
Greenwood
Granary is in the large garden of Greenwoods Farm which
is occupied by the owners, Graham, Sarah, their two
young children and several pets. Access to The Granary
is gained via an external wooden staircase and the
spacious accommodation is on the first floor. There is
solid oak joinery and flooring throughout all finished
to an extremely high standard. |
|
Idyllic Location |
|
|
There
is a large living area with sofas, coffee table, TV with
DVD player, music system and a selection of games,
jigsaws and local tourist information. |
|
|
|
|
At
one end, there is a dining area and fitted kitchenette
equipped with integrated dishwasher, fridge with freezer
section, combination oven, grill and microwave
and ceramic hob. |
|
|
|
|
Steps
down lead to the bedroom suite with a super king size
bed (which can be split into two generous singles if
required), shower room with W.C. and basin and dressing
area with two sturdy chair beds (2’8” x 6’2”). |
|
|
|
|
A
cot and high chair can be provided if required. A
separate utility room downstairs has a washing machine,
ironing board and other domestic paraphernalia together
with space for well behaved dogs, bicycles and the like. |
|
The Gardens |
|
|
Guests
will have exclusive use of two areas of garden. One is a
patio area immediately adjacent to The Granary with
garden furniture and a beautiful view of the valley. |
|
|
|
|
The
other is the Mandarin Garden (so named because a pair of
mandarin duck occasionally visit) which is a fenced area
including one of the two ponds and is quite private.
This garden is reached via a footpath from The Granary
which is screened from the rest of the garden at
Greenwoods Farm. The portable barbecue can, of course,
be used in either of these two garden areas. |
|
Local
Activities |
|
|
Walking and cycling.
You will find a vast network of public footpaths (one is
immediately adjacent) for walking and country lanes for
cycling. Starting from The Granary, it is possible to
walk for miles through ancient woodland and forestry
without using a public road. In addition, the Cuckoo
Trail is a disused railway line which has been opened
locally and runs for several miles of open walking,
cycling and horseriding. |
|
|
|
|
Extreme Sports.
Graham has been paragliding in the area since 1993 and
will place you in touch with local instructors for hang
gliding and paragliding if required and impart local
knowledge of the flying sites for those more
experienced.
|
|
|
|
|
Bird watching and wildlife.
The garden is a haven for wildlife with, for example,
coal tits, willow tits, nuthatches, woodpeckers and
finches making regular appearances. The resident
nightingale may also entertain you in the evening. A
flock of redwings numbering hundreds arrived one day
last Summer and numerous pied wagtails seem to live on
the lawns. Roe and fallow deer are abundant in the
valley surrounding us. We have three particular herds
of deer that commonly visit and interested visitors will
recognise them by the end of the week! |
|
|
|
|
Horse Riding.
Both Graham and Sarah ride and lessons and hacks can be
arranged nearby. At certain times of the year it may be
possible to bring your horse with you on holiday to
Greenwood Granary. Please enquire. |
|
Local
Area |
|
|
Open houses and gardens
in the vicinity include
Batemans, Michelham Priory and Hever, as well as
Sissinghurst Castle. Bodiam Castle is a fascinating ruin
enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Groombridge Place Enchanted Forest and Garden,
Knockhatch Adventure Park with its ski and snowboard
centre and Drusillas Zoo are all within easy reach with
each capable of providing a full day’s entertainment
for all the family. |
| |
|
Peace and
Tranquillity |
Having
said all that, our guests may well prefer to stay put
and enjoy Greenwood Granary in its beautiful setting
surrounded by nature.
However, if you have young children, please be aware
that the garden has two fenced ponds and an electric
fence on one perimeter.
